RFID poised for a shakeout?

While thumbing through the latest issue of M2M Magazine, a small article caught my attention. As per ABI Research, a leading research firm, RFID (radio frequency identification) market is poised for a major shakeout in coming nine months. “RFID Research Service”, a regularly updated report from ABI Research, mentions that major rollups, consolidations and acquisitions are on cards as the requirement for highly focussed RFID-related software and applications increases. Many major players are seen broadening the scope well beyond RFID middleware, into business intelligence, data analytics and automation networking.

Although this push was the ultimate goal, it was not expected so soon. Nevertheless, this effort is always welcome as, improved software applications will accelerate RFID growth.
