LinkedIn in Omaha

The Omaha city has grown big enough for LinkedIn to open an office here to promote growth of LinkedIn. I attended first ever LinkedIn networking meeting today, co-sponsored by Brian Smith of Mail Solutions and LinkedIn Omaha office, held at Prestige Bar and Lounge on 169th and Pacific St . It was a respectable sized gathering of people with a good mix of newbies to LinkedIn and 2 year LinkedIn veteran users like moi. April Kelly, Director of Omaha LinkedIn office made a brief presentation about LinkedIn and the features it offers followed by a question-answer session.
For those who are not familiar with LinkedIN, it is an online social and business networking site. It works based on the philosophy that two people are connected by six degrees of “seperation”. For example, Warren Buffett may not know me, but he may know someone, who in turn knows someone that knows me. So in a way, I am connected to Mr. Buffett or in other words I maybe “LinkedIn” to Warren Buffett.
April Kelly had words of caution to both new and experienced LinkedIN users to be very careful in selecting people to connect or recommending people. She also cautioned to be what you really are. Do not try to include false information about yourself, as other LinkedIn users are bound to find out the truth and they will let LinkedIn know about this false information. This can seriously affect your credibility.
So, are you LinkedIn? If not, head over to the LinkedIn website and prepare to be connected to people who will answer your questions, help you connect to the talent you need or the business contact you want to meet.
